Stuart Slade
Lead Trainer
Stuart has spent the last 20 years working in the Offshore Construction, Positioning and Navigation sector. He graduated in 2003 from the University of Plymouth with a degree in Ocean Science and also qualified as a commercial diver.
As a diver with a keen interest in Underwater Archaeology, Stuart began his offshore career as an ROV Pilot Technician hoping to use the skills to search for wrecks and artefacts in the underwater environment. Inevitably he ended up in the oil and gas sector working with large work class vehicles in the North Sea.
After a rethink to his career path, Stuart decided to move into the offshore survey sector and began working with Fugro in 2005 as part of their positioning and construction division. He also enhanced his hydrographic survey knowledge as part of an intensive programme at the Universiti Teknologi, Malaysia. He spent the next 8 years working at Fugro on projects such as pipeline installation, towed electromagnetic survey, LBL construction and metrology and rig positioning. In 2011 Stuart made Party Chief status and supervised multiple projects for the following 2 years and mentored and trained junior surveyors coming up through the ranks.
In November 2012, Stuart’s family life changed with the birth of his son, and eventually in 2013 he decided to make the transition onshore. As he had been involved with multiple projects offshore using Sonardyne LBL and USBL systems and with a passion for knowledge sharing, Stuart applied to join the Sonardyne Training team.
Stuart has worked for Sonardyne since November 2013, he now leads the Training Team and delivers training, support and consultancy in Sonardyne products and solutions across the globe.
